Introduction
Mint, belonging to the Laminaceae family, is a perennial plant with a fine stem that has bright, light green lanceolate leaves, with small purple or violet-red flowers, which appear mainly during the summer months.
Origin
Mint has its origin in Asian regions such as ancient Mesopotamia and Egypt.
Properties
Fresh mint contains fiber, iron, magnesium, protein, vitamin C, and offers a high calcium content. It is a general stimulant, and one of the most recommended antispasmodics.
Consumption
It is very refreshing in any type of salad. It also tastefully combines in sauce with lamb meat. It is widely used in the baking industry. To achieve sedative effects and promote digestion, it is good to take an infusion of fresh leaves during the day. This infusion is also recommended in mucous colds, since it facilitates expectoration by preventing the formation of materials that are expectorated. The infusion with milk mitigates abdominal pain and expels gas.
Conservation
Fresh mint is kept in a plastic bag in the refrigerator.
