Introduction
The tree tomato is a very striking tropical fruit that comes from the Cyphromandra betacea plant. It measures from 5 to 10 cm, and visually, it looks a bit like a plum on the outside and a tomato on the inside. The tree tomato has a bright, deep red skin and its sweet and sour, juicy and succulent pulp also resembles that of the tomato, from which it takes its name in some regions of “tree tomato”.
Origin
The origin of the tree tomato is located in the Andes. The main producing countries are Colombia, Ecuador, Africa and New Zealand.
Properties
The tree tomato offers a high content of vitamin A and C, protein, phosphorus, fiber, calcium and iron.
Consumption
To enjoy its exotic refreshing flavor, it is recommended to eat the tree tomatoes naturally, raw, as, for example, as a garnish for cold dishes, or in salads. You just have to remove the skin, cut them into slices and add salt or sugar, to taste, depending on the type of dish they accompany. It is an ideal fruit that can be consumed both in desserts and in cooked dishes.
