Introduction
Known and consumed on five continents, the tomato is an essential vegetable daily in a healthy and balanced diet. It is a vegetable that belongs to the Solanaceae family, of which there are innumerable varieties that are distinguished from each other by their shape and color. However, in this description we will focus on the more traditional varieties. Its shape is spherical, flattened on both sides, and its color is bright intense red when ripe. Inside is the pulp, succulent and very juicy, which is housed in cells full of tiny edible seeds. The tomato is on the market all year round.
Origin
The tomato has its origin in South America. Currently, the main producing countries are Spain, Holland, France, Italy, Belgium and Morocco.
Properties
The tomato is very refreshing and provides vitamin A and C, calcium, iron, fiber and protein.
Consumption
Fresh or cooked as a garnish, tomatoes are the ideal accompaniment to any salad, and are especially refreshing in summer. It always offers an excellent presence due to its color and bright appearance. It is also consumed very frequently in any meat or fish dish, whole or cut, as well as in stews and sauces. Tomato is the base ingredient of any pasta sauce and various meat dishes.
