Introduction
Broccoli, from the Cruciferae family, is a vegetable with great taste qualities. It is a cabbage that has fewer leaves than cauliflower, and these are shorter and simpler as well. Its floral peduncles are less tight and compact, forming a head with an irregular shape, more flattened. It is bluish-green in color, and its flavor is strong and sweet at the same time.
Origin
Broccoli originated in Italy, and today it is grown mainly in the countries of the Mediterranean basin. This vegetable is particularly appreciated in Italy, France, Holland, Germany and England.
Properties
Broccoli contains protein, carbohydrates, fiber, calcium, iron, and a high percentage of vitamin C, which contributes to a healthy diet.
Consumption
Broccoli can be used raw in salads. It is also ideal as a garnish for meat and fish dishes, whether boiled, marinated, steamed or grilled. The less time it cooks, the crispier it gets.
Conservation
It is recommended to keep the broccoli in the refrigerator, protected with a plastic bag.
