Introduction
The cherry is a fruit well known by both adults and children. Very round and about 2 cm. in diameter,
it has a lateral slit and its color is lushy dark red, giving it an excellent presence.
With sweet and juicy pulp, this fruit is typical of summer. It begins to be present on the market in May.
It is also found in the winter months, thanks to off-season imports, mainly from Chile and Argentina,
that provide a quality product similar to that of national origin.
Origin
It is believed that the origin of the cherry is in ancient Mesopotamia, and that the Greeks were the first to discover its health properties. Currently, Spain is one of the main cherry producing countries in the world.
Properties
Cherry is a fruit with protective properties against cancer, due to its ellagic acid content, a substance that prevents the reproduction of cancer cells. It is also necessary to highlight its excellent diuretic and antioxidant properties. In addition, it is highly recommended for the joints.
Consumption
In its different varieties, the cherry is a fruit to be consumed preferably raw, alone or accompanied by other fruits or with juices and liqueurs. It can also be used to make jams, preserves and liqueurs.
Conservation
The best way to preserve the cherry and maintain its pleasant flavor is to leave it in a cool, refrigerated place until it is time to eat it.
