Introduction
The fruit, ovoid in shape, is a green berry when it is green that turns orange-yellow with small white spots when ripe. Its size is 6.5 to 8 cm long and 5.1 to 7 cm in diameter. Its smooth-looking shell is not edible, while its gelatinous pulp, with a very aromatic flavor, is yellowish white and contains edible seeds.
Origin
It is native to Mexico, Colombia being currently the main producer worldwide, although it is also grown in Central America and the rest of South America.
Properties
It is a tropical fruit with great nutritional value, providing vitamins A, B, C, E and K, as well as minerals such as calcium, copper, iron, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, selenium, sodium and zinc.
Consumption
They are delicious taken fresh, simply accessing their interior, and consuming them with a spoon. Its pulp is also used as an ingredient for ice cream, sauces and creams.
Conservation
It is recommended to keep it at room temperature without a nearby heat source. Once ripe, keep it in the fridge.
