Introduction
The Papaya Formosa is one of the largest papaya varieties, weighing between 2 and 3 kg. It differs from other papaya varieties not only because of its size, but also because of its very tasty and juicy pulp. Papaya, or Carica papaya, is a highly esteemed fruit for its pleasant refreshing flavor and for its appreciated and healthy virtues. The current increase in imports, due to the modernization of transport, has facilitated its consumption. Likewise, the consumer receives it in optimal organoleptic conditions. This has allowed papaya to consolidate itself as one of the most appreciated exotic fruits. Its skin is yellow-orange, and its exquisite orange pulp contains black seeds that are easily extracted like those of a melon.
Origin
Native to the South American tropics, its cultivation has spread to various countries and subtropical latitudes. It has developed in particular in the humid valleys of the coasts of Colombia, Ecuador, and the interior of Brazil.
Properties
Papaya has incomparable health properties. It is very rich in vitamins A and C, and contains papain, an enzyme that breaks down proteins, also facilitating digestion. It is a diuretic fruit and purifies the digestive system. A diet for one day only, eating only papaya, will be excellent for cleansing and providing rest to the body.
Consumption
It is recommended to eat papaya raw to take advantage of its high organoleptic qualities. Just cut it in half lengthwise, scoop out the seeds with a spoon, sprinkle with lemon or orange juice, and it's ready to eat. It also goes perfectly with pieces of other fruit (kiwi slices, grape berries, etc.) in the hole left by the seeds. Likewise, it will be very appetizing and highly healthy as breakfast or dessert. Served as a starter with ham, it is also exquisite.
Conservation
Papaya must be consumed ripe, which is recognized by the fact that its skin is sensitive to the touch, and the color of its skin changes from green to yellow tones. If you buy them green, they will ripen perfectly if you leave them in a cool place. Once ripe, they are kept in the fridge.
