Introduction
The Rambutan, or "little hedgehog of the tropics", from the Sapindaceae family, is a very popular tropical fruit in its cultivation area. It has a strange and at the same time attractive appearance, its size is similar to a walnut, and the shell that surrounds it is thick, soft and hairy. The hairs reveal the reddish-brown color of the bark. Its pulp is transparent yellow, and inside it houses a long and narrow seed similar to an almond. Its flavor is bittersweet, very refreshing and juicy.
Origin
Rambutan is native to Malaysia, and today it is grown mainly in this country as well as in Thailand, China, India and Africa.
Properties
Rambutan offers important nutritional elements such as its content of vitamins B and C, carbohydrates and proteins.
Consumption
Rambutan is best enjoyed raw. It is also used to prepare sauces for meat and fish dishes, as well as for jams and fruit salads.
Conservation
It is recommended to eat the rambutan right after buying it. It is best kept in the refrigerator.
