Introduction
The blueberry, from the Ericaceae family, is a spherical fruit of the forest, reddish in color when still green, and black when ripe. It is covered by a bluish film at its point of maturity, more or less bright. Its size is similar to that of the currant. Its pulp is very juicy and aromatic.
Origin
The main producing countries are the Netherlands and France on the one hand, and Chile and Argentina on the other hand, for off-season imports.
Properties
Blueberry provides vitamin C, protein, fiber, calcium, and iron. In addition, it has refreshing, tonic, astringent and diuretic properties.
Consumption
The blueberry is a fruit consumed with game dishes, or for making sauces, or as a garnish for meat and fish. It is also used for making jams. In addition, it is used for desserts – cakes and pastries – and in ice cream.
Conservation
The blueberry is kept for a few days in the refrigerator due to its fragility.
