Introduction
Guava, from the Myrtaceae family, is a small tropical fruit – between 4 and 10 cm in diameter -, oval in shape and yellowish in color when ripe. Its pulp – dotted with small seeds – yellowish or reddish depending on the variety, is sweet and very aromatic.
Origin
Guava is native to South America. Currently, the main producing countries are those in the intertropical zone between Mexico and Brazil, as well as the southern United States (Florida and California) and the Caribbean.
Properties
Guava is very rich in vitamins A and C, which together with its high content of phosphorus and calcium make them of interest for consumption and health. Likewise, guava offers laxative and refreshing properties.
Consumption
The best way to enjoy this tropical fruit is to eat it fresh. It is also used to prepare jams and jellies.
Conservation
Guavas are kept in a cool place.
