Introduction
The curuba, which has become the national fruit of Colombia, is a tropical fruit with a pleasant exotic flavor, soft and acid at the same time. It belongs to the Passionflower family. Cylindrical and oval in shape, and up to 11 cm long, its skin has the same consistency as that of a passion fruit, and can be yellow or red when ripe. The gelatinous pulp also resembles that of passion fruit. It is available in the market all year round.
Origin
The curuba has its origin in Colombia. Currently the main producing countries are Brazil, Peru, Ecuador and Colombia.
Properties
Curuba provides a high content of vitamin C, and has healing properties.
Consumption
The best way to savor this tropical fruit is to cut it lengthwise and eat it as is, with a spoon. It is also used to flavor ice creams and cocktails.
Conservation
It is kept in optimal conditions in the refrigerator.
